After you install this updated template, then the next time you open a chapter file, you may get a message saying that the styles in the document have changed and asking if you want to update the styles. Answer Yes.

If you do not get this message, check the Doc Properties to see if the chapter uses one of the draft templates (identified by a date and initials at the end of the file name). If so, you can use the Template Changer extension to update the file to use the current template (assuming you have the extension installed). Please note that you will then need to make one manual fix and you might need to make a second fix.

1) Due to a long-standing bug in OOo, the settings in Tools > Outline Numbering revert to the default Heading 1, Heading 2, and so on, so the ToC won't update correctly. (Yes, an issue on this was filed long ago.) You need to manually fix the outline numbering to use OOoHeading 1, etc. Once fixed, the correct settings stick after saving the file.
From my own extended experience with this bug, I believe that any importing of styles from a template or document file into the desired file will retrigger this deletion of settings in Outline Numbering. However, you will not experience it until the target file is first updated. Then the poofing of settings (plus the ToC) happens.
