Each of the m1 through m4 updates are progressively getting worse on my Vista Ultimate system. In fact, the older betas were more dependable than any of the m1 through m4 series. m4 was cleanly installed after m3 was uninstalled via its unistaller.

At first, with m4 (3.0.0) I experienced a number of older files created with m3 refusing to start before they opened and closed abruptly. After several application restarts, I can now open or create files again.

However, only the three preinstalled extensions will run. Every time I try to add any of the older extension files via browsing to their paths, I get a dialog box telling me that it cannot connect to another (nonexistent) folder on another hard-drive partition. Then I tried downloading and tried to install the extensions again that way. No dice. Same problem. So, now I cannot even install any extensions.

Anybody have any idea why the newer and improved updates are getting worse? September 1 is tomorrow (today for some...), and a release candidate of OOo is imminent...

I had some major problems with some of the earlier developers' builds of OOo3 on WinXP, but I haven't noticed any problems with extensions or anything else with recent "m" builds, not that I've used OOo much on Windows. I just updated to m4 on WinXP and got a bunch of error messages during the installation, but it opened okay and I downloaded and installed some extra extensions without any problem. I haven't attempted to do much other than open a PDF using PDFImport (which worked fine).

However, I've had lots of problems just getting recent builds to work
(or sometimes, to open) on one of my Ubuntu machines (lots of error
messages during the installation, and Calc refuses to open even when the other components work); m3 and m4 would not open any components.

Over the weekend I did a clean Ubuntu install on a spare machine and then a clean install of OOom3 on that, and all seems to be well. I just updated to m4 there, and so far it's okay.
