if you read through site, you will find the paragraph "How you can
help at OOoAuthors" and there is a subparagraph called "Getting
started". The first point there contains the link to

Thanks, Thomas. Yes, I knew about that because I wrote it. ;-)
Unfortunately, when someone uses that form to register, it appears to
work but in fact does nothing. No confirmation email is sent to the
person attempting to register, and they never get onto the Member list.
Or at least, that's what happened when I tested it.
If I, as a manager, use that form to register someone, then they do get
a confirmation email and all goes as it should.
