I'm not seeing that many documents in the Base folder. Are there any
workers active on this as of right now?

As far as I know, the only knowledgable person currently working on the Base Guide is Dan Lewis, who put a partially completed draft of the first chapter in the Base folder in late May. At the time he mentioned he had
been
very busy this year, but hoped to get back to writing.

This looks like a good place to update my progress. I have been doing some more writing on chapter 1 of the Base Guide. I am now working in the
Query section. This leaves the Reports and using Base with other data
sources as well as with other parts of OOO (Writer and Calc). Until July 6th, I should have about half a day each day on Base. We will see how much
I
can get done during this period of time. I hope to have the first chapter
done by July 6th.

Hi Dan,

Started talking on the dba users mailing list regarding Search / Filter
functions in Base - planning on a 'simplistic most likely' overview of the
feature for public access.
If there is anything I'm doing that would be of interest for the manual -
well..just wanted to give a heads up I suppose.

Thanks

Drew

I would love to see your overview as soon as you can. Once I see it, I might have some additional questions. There are still so very many things that I do not understand about databases.
that makes 2 of us, minimum

Is there some place where I can get more information about the Sun Report Builder extension.
Dimitri Popov wrote a users guide - available from Lulu for 3.95 USDollars

I would like to know how it works, but I can't seem to figure out how to use it to create a report.

Actually I really need to respond to a request for showing how to limit a report based on a form...I'm a couple days past due with this post - guess I should finish that tonight...

For this post I start with the finished report and get into scripting -

But - before that...and I don't know how much anyone cares *naive look*...but I decided to use Windows 7 for the screen captures.

Starting right from - the start -

A huge bunch ( 2 doz plus) of raw screens can be found here (27+ megs, stored for gimp 2.6) - no narrative here
http://baseanswers.com/downloads/install_win7_raw_screens.tar.gz
( if you do look into those the order is appx:
Sun Virtual Box
Install_xxxx
new_screen size
Language packs
media_center / get a Virus checker (it is Windows)
get_OOo_xxx (up to about 38)
OOo_attachments (using MS Live Mail client)
Get_OOo_xxx ( from 40 on )
OOo_msis_win7_xxxx (this is about where the Search / Filter stuff will start)

For a couple other - kind of on topic - screens:

http://baseanswers.com/downloads/MSIS_Win7_Tablet2.png

First problem is where to put the fields and labels. Second problem is inserting a function into a field. Third problem is inserting another function into another field which will use the results of an earlier created function.

I think I need more information here...but not today, Ok
