"Dialog box" is the term for the whole window, not the area outlined in red. The red outline contains one of two "panes" in the dialog box. However, if you are talking about the stuff inside the pane, it makes more sense to me to refer to it as "pages". For example, "Select Appearance in the left pane to display the Appearance page in the right pane". Or more simply "Click Appearance to see options that control the appearance of the program." --Janet
