No objections here, but while you are at it, could you also clean up the config directory? config/announce-gen should live in build-aux (and probably needs resyncing with gnulib), and config/prev-version.txt is no longer necessary with your scheme, so we no longer need the config directory. - -- Don't work too hard, make some time for fun as well!
