So now I think we can clearly state the question:
Should an arg to configure be considered as a --build.
I would vote no. I agree that this is not as bad as making a
configure argument be treated as --host. But even this change is not
fully backward compatible, as the old instructions for building gcc
with a cross-compiler were something like `configure --build=BUILD
HOST'.
I think it has been long enough since config.guess was introduced that
this need not be an issue.
