i'd try one experiment too:

linux# smbclient -L server -U Administrator
        - you should get a list of shares...

linux# smbmount //WinNT/C /mnt/WinNT -U Administrator -C -P passwd
linux# ls -l /mnt/WinNT 
        - you should see everything...
linux# umount /mnt/WinNT

than I think autofs can do it too...
