I have Linux reading automount maps from my Solaris, what the problem is
probably that
your maps have '_' in them.  In order for Linux autofs to work they must
have '.'.  This
is the old old SunOS style.  BTW you will not get it to read your
auto.direct as Linux does
not support that at this time.  What I have done to get around the '_'
was to make the
map exported as auto.home along with the standard auto_home.  That way
both are happy
and work fine.
I do not know why they picked such an old autofs style to support, but
those are a few
work arounds.
