Also true, and always returning a string is inflexible.  Maybe the 
benefits of a more precise return is worth the cost of re-writing all 
the current callers?  Alex is right, if it's not good now, better to fix 
it early than later.  I'm okay with this too, and willing to help fix 
callers if that makes the task easier (assuming it makes sense).
