anyone read the totally unneccessary flame wars at
GNOME over the weekend?

Please all, keep in mind that apache is not only an open
source project; it also supports the ideas as promoted by
the FSF.

Peter, Ceki, both of you, as vital members of your
respective jakarta projects, should really be above
comments such as "We innovate, you copy". Also, I'd
expect issues like "If however you are not accusing me
of stealing ideas but instead of violating copyright
then that is another thing altogether. I would like
to see substantiated evidence that this has been the
case for I do not apreciate slander." to not even
be thought about within a 'copyleft'-oriented
project.

Listen to Berin, put personal matters aside and let's
co-operate to have a common interface in the next
version of both log4j and logkit. If I can talk to
Oracle, mySQL, msSQL, InstantDB etc. databases using
all but exactly the same code, I sure as hell should
be able with regards to log4j/logkit.

On the matter of: "Peter, log4j is an API that is used
by thousands of developers. We cannot break backward
compatibility just to please you."

You could do so to make the other 99% of the developers
here at jakarta that are confused by two logging APIs
happy, not to mention the new user base. You could do so
because it makes sense and improves both projects. You
could do so because it gives us a little better chance
to defeat an awful JSR. I can give you a lot of other
reasons, but I'm not going to.

Don't want to 'waste your time'? Then make the projects
more accessible so others can do the work, and let it be.

thank you very very much for acting like adults and
finally solving this issue.

Leo, who just recently acquired adult status
