After looking at the logo in different sizes on different screens and from 3 printers, I am not too happy with a background shadow. The current logo looks all but exactly the same in all instances, with a shadow you loose that at IMO not enough gain.
Its looking good, but I agree with the other pete, need a bit of color. Maybe color the interior of the shield a bit, and then make the Avalon text in a different color?
