I never tried it, but I think it might run there, provided libusb and 
libhidapi are available.  In addition, the only resources AVaRICE is 
using are pipes and Posix threads, which I think won't be a problem on 
the RPi.

I've got an older RPi around, where I could try that as well.

I've always made the best experiences regarding USB using VMware. 
I've got a couple of Windows guests running on Linux hosts that way, 
and e.g. even firmware upgrades from within Atmel Studio do work.

The VMware Player (without "plus") is free of charge, but pretty well 
hidden on the VMware website. ;-)  It's main missing feature compared 
to the pay version is that it cannot handle snapshots.
