I tried autoconf 2.13 yesterday and that seemed to solve the autogen
problems.
I re-install autoconf 2.50 today, re-downloaded the avifile source from
cvs and I still got the same errors. One possable reason might be
your changes weren't committed to cvs yet? When I ran cvs update it, it
didn't look like it updated at all, so I removed my avifile directory and
re-downloaded it before I ran autoconf 2.50. I'll try to update
again tomorrow evening and see if any "U"'s scroll by. If you or someone
else is willing to try and fix the 2.50 problems, I'm willing to try it
out and help out if I can. I have had a few problems with autogen since I
installed slackware rescently and I think it's becuase they packaged the
"cutting edge" autoconf 2.50 instead of 2.13.
