Try this morning's CVS version. I got it to compile without a hitch. I
can't check whether or not the A/V sync problem is fixed until tonight but
the authors have made changes that should fix this as well.

Subject: [Avifile]Problems compiling avifile-0.6.0
Hi, I tried compiling avifile snapshot from aug 3rd, but I found some
problems.. first off, I had to turn off ffmpeg (--disable-ffmpeg) to get
it to compile.
Secondly, when attempting to compile after installation of divx4, I get
the following errors:
/qt-2.3.0/lib -L/usr/local/lib ../../lib/.libs/libaviplay.so -lpthread
-lpthread -lpthread -lpthread -lXv -L/usr/lib -lSDL -lpthread -lXi -lXft
-lpthread -ldivxdecore -ldivxencore -lpthread -lnsl -ldl -Wl,--rpath
-Wl,/usr/local/lib
../../lib/.libs/libaviplay.so: undefined reference to
`XF86VidModeGetAllModeLines'
../../lib/.libs/libaviplay.so: undefined reference to
`XF86VidModeGetModeLine'
and compilation ceases. In the documentation, it is suggested to downgrade
to SDL 1.1.6 - however, only SDL 1.1.8 is available on that branch. I am
currently using SDL 1.2.0 on a Red Hat Linux 7.1 system with Ximian GNOME.
An upgrade to SDL 1.2.2 doesn't help neither.
Any suggestion for bugtracing?
Also, what is 'format 0x55'?
