Are there any error messages in the X log? (On XFree86 4.x this is

The only thing that can ever explain an X crash is a bug in X, even the
most broken and abusive client shouldn't be able to bring it down unless
there is a bug in the X server.
Elsewhere in this thread someone mentioned the tdfx driver and Xv
