It works!
What I did:
d/l lame-3.89 beta from sourceforge
compile lame-3.89 with lowered optimizations
copy lame-3.89/libmp3lame/.libs/* into one of your libdirs
d/l CVS snapshot avifile
compile & install it
d/l whatever application that uses avifile & encoding
compile it (I use mpeg2divx) with lowered optimizations
Run it and have fun.
It works for me. So it'll work for you.
Be sure that you don't have any other bogus libmp3lame.so's nowhere.
