it sound like your card is fixed to 48kHz samplerate or something like that, 
so it plays 44kHz sound at 48kHz mich makes it sound pitches and makes the 
movie run faster as it's synced to audio.
(Or maybe avifile can't correctly setup your card to lower frequency because 
of bug in aviplay or doundcard driver, try if you have sae prob with mplayer, 
if yes it's surely soundcard driver problem).
