I would probably suggest to rather try to use your old original compiler which
has been used for the rest of your packages
Otherwice you will have to upgrade half you your system.
RH6.1 is quite old and it will simply not work if you will
try to link libriries build with gcc-2.72 with programs/libraries
created by gcc-2.95 - the same is true for gcc-2.95 -> gcc-3.0
