No it shouldn't. It is copied there by automake, which is executed from 
autogen.sh. Either you missed some step or you have damaged installation of 
automake.

No we don't, but obviously something on your system ( most likely SDL ) does. 
E.g. you installed alsa, built SDL, then uninstalled alsa. Oops... Also, why 
don't you give more detailed information ( I would be happier if you sent me 
last 5-10 lines of output rather than just this error message ).
