I'm not sure what problem could be here - anyway I'm using uptodate
debian unstable and I can't see such behaviour:

Are you using set of libraries from avifile.sf.net ?
Or you have some old one - there were some codecs which

Hmm when I remove it from my dir it doesn't aborts
Could you try 'binary resolve this problem'
e.g. remove halve of codecs - works - no
remove another halve and so on.
When it works try to add halve from the previosly moved away set
back - (it's usually good idea to use alphabet sorting)
