Hi! I am - ehh - I was a silent reader of avifile mailinglist via archive. Now I have a problem and maybe someone (Kabi) can help me :-)
I'm playing with DivX and ac3 audio stream on a 5.1-amplifier. I use - avifile-0.6 CVS (BTW: it's time for a stable release) - SB life! 5.1 - OpenSource OSS emu10k1 driver - ONKYO TX-DS494 AV receiver Receiver and soundcard are digital connected. I use to demo files: - thx.ac3; ac3 rip of a THX trailer) -thx.avi; transcoded thx.ac3 with video stream from /dev/zero and original ac3 audio stream (transcode -i thx.ac3 -A -n 0x2000 -y divx4 -o thx.avi) My interest is the libac3pass-plugin. As far as I understand this plugin should pass all ac3 data direct to the emu10k1 - no need for a software downmixing. But the current emu10k1 sounddriver has another interesing feature: direct ac3 data passthru to the receiver (ac3 data are auto-detected)! If I start "play-ac3 thx.ac3" my receiver shows "Dolby Digital" in the display and I got perfect sound. If I use "aviplay thx.avi" with libac3pass the sound is broken. If I use libac3 sound is much lower and its not 5.1. My receiver says "Digital PCM" I also testet mplayer with "-ac hwac3" option which seems to be same code. Here the sound is the same as with libac3. I would like to fix libac3pass in a way of passthru all ac3 data from the stream to the receiver in the same way "play-ac3" works. I have the hardware and basic programming skills but I dont know anything about avifile plugin structure.
