Well that's how  libac3pass is supposed to work - and at least
it worked this way when I've developed this plugin - but I could not
test this plugin as I do not have such device at home.
But during development I've used it and I've seen DolbyDigital sign.

So if there has anything changed in the EMU driver - someone will
have to figure out how to update the code to match playac3

It's really very simple.
Just look at it.

Data are taken from ac3 avi stream - translated to some native
emu code (I suspect this could have been changed - so look
at this area first)  and then are directly passed to oss driver
which is being set in OSSAudioRenderer 
(be sure you are using OSS audio driver - it will not work with
SDL audio driver - and this all should be written in the enclosed readme)
