I do have qdv.dll in that directory, but when I try to play a dv avi,
aviplayer says:

CreateVideoDecoder(): Unknown codec 0x64737664 = "dvsd"
IAviPlayer: FATAL: Failed to initialize decoder object
No video will be available

it does play the audio.

Hmm, now I'm really confused. I just tried it with mplayer, and it works
with the following output:

Opening Video Decoder: [dshow] DirectShow video codecs
Loading DLL: 'qdv.dll'
Loaded qdv.dll to address 0x76b40000
Using DirectShow codec: qdv.dll
Decoder is capable of YUV output ( flags 0x9)
VDec: vo config request - 720 x 480, Packed YUY2
[PP] Using codec's postprocessing, max q = 4
Movie-Aspect is undefined - no prescaling applied.
VO: [xv] 720x480 => 720x480 Packed YUY2
Disabling DPMS
stat: 1
Detected video codec: [qdv] drv:4 prio:0 (Sony Digital Video (DV))

Do both aviplayer and mplayer use avifile?
