Most probably you do not have win32 plugin installed -
could you send me startup log.

I'm pretty sure there will be an easy explanation for your problem
(like not installed libSDL-dev or something similar)

both players are using mostly the same win32 loader code
which comes originaly from avifile project (and Xine is using it as well)
