I am using win32... but the final platform will be RedHat Linux, hence the reason that I'm starting on cygwin. I won't be getting my red hat box for a month or so.
AviFile on Windows API is a pain in the ^&*^*&8. No, actually programming anything for Windows is a pain, not just multimedia. If I do something new and creative with the code to get it to work, I'll try to remember to post. However I think you are thinking I'm writing a program for Win2K which thankfully is not the case. I have compiled the large majority of the files - that uint64_t, int6_t problem was pretty much all of the errors I was getting. So you have few posiblities - you might try to use ffmpeg - this one is known to be portable to Win32 however I think noone is currently actively developing it there.
