Avifile tries to do it's best to keep the sync - but if the machine
is very slow you can't expect mirracles - I'm the only one who
develops avifile and I've really different goals...

Try mplayer - they seems to have access to slower hardware and have
fast support for rgb displays - i.e. they could use ffmpeg and
show the output in RGB format much faster at this moment - for avifile
you have to use Win32 DivX direct show codec which is slower.

Maybe you should mention your hardware configuration and aviplay 
startup script...
