Hmm I guess I rememeber some similar problem - but these
were mostly caused by autoconf stuff.

I think the only reliable way would be to either remove libmad
or move  libmad configure file into some  m4/libmad.m4 file - as
it looks like this starts to make some big troubles lately.
It would most probably also speedup configuration  (I've already
disabled libmmxnow compilation in CVS - so maybe I'll check
how hard would be to fix this part of compilation process -
maybe libmad is now quite common and doesn't change too much
so it could be actually removed from avifile completely ???)

I think the partial reason is that I've used newer auto*
to generate distribution archive - maybe the older script
has been accepting compilation flags in a better way.
