I continue to have problems getting the application vcr to compile against the current (Debian-Sid) versions of libavifile0.7 and libavifile0.7-dev . The patch to vcr offered by Algis Rudys (against the 20030129 update of libavifile0.7) seems not to work against the 20030204 update, generating a large number of errors all involving calls to various avm:: methods.

I also note that there is an outstanding Debian bug report (#179875) for avifile-player that also relates to the avm code, specifically an apparent incompatibility with thc current Debian-Sid version of libqavm-0.7.so.0 .

So, my question ... are there known problems with the current Debian-Sid libavifile0.7 and libavifile0.7-dev packages that could be the cause of my problems, or is libavifile0.7 known to work on Debian-Sid with *any* application (the aviplay bug means I can't use that as the obvious test)? If there are known problems, do you anticipate a package update soon?

Note: My problems occur on a fresh install of Debian-Sid on a new system. The severity of the problem, and my uncertainty about how fixable it is, make me unwilling to to an upgrade to an existing system (which works with the older versions of libavifile0.7 and vcr it still has ... upgrading this older system would require a dist-upgrade in any case, since all of the avifile-related stuff is being held back on a regular upgrade, implying some dependency changes).

Although these are questions specific to Debian, you (Zdenek) are the Debian maintainer as well as the upstream author for the avifile-* and libavifile* packages, so Ihope you will agree that these questions are properly raised here.
