I’ve been talking with Ugo Varetto, the former developer of Molekel - he
published an article on real-time volume rendering of quantum data.

Unfortunately, that code isn’t available, but he was willing to share recent
GLSL work on isosurface and volumetric rendering of arbitrary functions:
https://github.com/candycode/isoshade

Example videos:
Volumetric blobs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8sFeA0l--8&feature=plcp
Isosurface torus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9b9YUnWefc&feature=plcp
Volumetric surface: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBRP9pQyWRk&feature=plcp

I haven’t had time to sit down and look at the code, but this seems like a nice
start at:
- GLSL rendering for orbitals
- Volumetric rendering for orbitals

I’ll add the link to the GSoC ideas page, but people should take a look at the
videos.

Cheers,
-Geoff
