Yep, that works. Awesome.

One final remark is that imvho it's a bit icky that changes to the list passed 
in effect the writing. I think it would be nicer/ more safe that the union 
schema works with an internal copy and there would be an explicit way to add 
another schema to the union. Maybe that's nagging though, I'm happy this works, 
and I think we're done with this issue.
