The benefits I think are those of using the FlexBuilder environment.
It gives a programmer the full facilities of using the Eclipe editor
and the building ststem, but they don't have to use the Flex
libraries. The Flex tools are excellent for building user interfaces,
but if all you want is a plain Flash animation it can all be
programmed in Actionscript using the same programming environment,
with the same benefits. FlexBuilder doesn't force you to use the Flex
libraries with their inevitable overhead, you can use whatever
actionscript libraries you like, as you can with FDT and similar
editors.
