Welcome (back again) to Away3D :)

If you are using the flash 10 version, a huge plane with clipping set on it
*shouldn't* crash or take up much memory, since you only need 1 segment for
it (not many segments like f9 version)

If that doesn't work out for you I can suggest trying a skybox. Although it
will be very hard to match up to your floor "seamlessly", at least you can
give the illusion of an "infinite" background.
