You guys get most of the credit for this enhancement. The heavy hits
against my little server this week to view the Version 2 Bunko demos
of Away, Sandy and Papervision examples and download and compare the
code samples side by side came much more heavily from the non-English-
speaking parts of the globe. So I am happy to be able say that
Version 2.1 is available -- moving the tested glyph support from the
ISO 8859-1 level to the ISO 8859-15 level.
I haven't the resources to test the wide world of possible mixes of
fonts and characters, but the diacritical marks for Germany, France,
Sweden and Brazil all look good so far testing with one of the extra
PreBedded fonts that ships with the workbench, Palatino Italic. The
API to 'dress' the sides of a character in a particular appearance
extends from the primary shape to the sub-shapes -- at least most of
the time! You can use the drag-and-drop facility to quickly test what
you might get for your project using your particular font. {On the
other forums I was able to insert a screen-shot along with this
notice, so you might go take a peek there.]
As important as Japanese has been to me, this enhancement portends NO
attempt to support Far Eastern Languages down stream. I am just happy
to finally be able to pay some dues to the folks in Western Europe,
Eastern Europe and Latin America by bringing their needs to the same
level as our plain old dumb American Ascii!
