My goal is to create some realistic looking creatures that can
interact with users.

I think some of the animations can be done using keyframes and the
animator class as described here.

I'm not sure how I'm going to get the creature to turn it's head
toward the cursor or react in a realistic manner to other objects/
creatures.

Should I be using bones for that?  I've experimented with exporting a
very simple rigged model from Blender using Collada, but the model
gets slightly deformed when it's displayed in Flash (the arms are
perfectly straight in Blender and in Flash they are bent a little at
the shoulders and elbows).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
