Yup!

For negative masking, which I've just recently had to do in a small
"pseudo 3D" game (preloader for 
http://www.mcdonalds.de/unternehmen/gibmuelleineabfuhr.cfm
) I did what Todsaporn is suggesting, but utilizing the ERASE blend
mode for the mask layer (instead of assigning it to the mask property
of another layer.) Essentially, I have a cylinder standing in the
center of that scene, with the ERASE blend mode to obfuscate the ball
whenever it's behind the pillar. The visible pillar, in case you
didn't guess, is just a photo.
