QuadrantRender is a CPU killer! .If you don't need to intersect your object there is not reason to use this renderer.
File types, it depends on what you need.Also alone assets file formats don't influence performance but rather the loading/parsing time. For bones animations md2 is fine (it is binary) For static meshes awd 3ds are very fast to parse. Besides ,optimization is an art man.There are no fixed rules how to make your app run fast.You need to play around with alot of stuff.Start looking in this groups threads for different optimization tips ,also experiment by yourself.
