I need to do some 2D sprite animation. And obviously it will run
faster if using Molehill.
But I thought, it would be too much - using a 3D engine for 2D
graphics, because it has a lot of stuff, that will expectedly load the
system, but won't be actually used.

There is M2D - a 2D engine for Molehill. I'm working with it for
several weeks already, but it is on a very early step - a lot of
functionality is lacking.
So, what do you think, is it reasonable to use Away3D for 2D only -
with Sprites3D. How much unnecessary stuff will be loading the system
then?
