if there is no map_Kd tag set into your mtl material definition Kd value should be set to your color. expressed as 0-1 0-1 0-1 for the 3 components in obj tag jargon. Perhaps is your value set as 1 1 1 explaining the white. If no color is set and no map_kd is set or invalid path to source , a shaker map is applied by default.
If no error occurs it is probably because there is no error. The chunk is parsed and defined as a white color.
