A new Flyspray task has been opened. Details are below.
User who did this - Michael Kaminsky (kaminsky)
Attached to Project - awesome
Summary - Some dialog boxes don't completely go way after being closed (Save
Under flag issue)
Task Type - Bug Report
Category - Core
Status - Unconfirmed
Assigned To -
Operating System - All
Severity - Medium
Priority - Normal
Reported Version - git/master
Due in Version - Undecided
Due Date - Undecided
Details - I'm seeing a bug in applications that use libXm (lesstif2) where
closing
certain windows doesn't completely destroy them. A residual blank window/
rectangle remains where the actually window was. This might be the same
bug as #211 -- I'm only seeing it with lesstif-based apps (not QT), but
it could be the same problem.
The main application I see this in is xpdf. To replicate: Open the "Find"
or "Open File" dialogs (by pressing 'f' or 'o'). Click Close or Cancel. A
white box remains where the dialog was. Sometimes it takes a few tries (opens
and closes) for the problem to appear. Re-opening the same dialog tends to
clear the leftover window. I checked another program (ddd), which also uses
lesstif, and see the same problem.
The good news: I tracked the problem down to windows that have the
"Save Under" flag set. If I run 'xwininfo' on the dialog/popup in
question, I get
Save Under State: yes
My limited investigation seems to indicate a one-to-one correlation between
windows with this flag set and windows that exhibit this problem. I'm not
sure what the right fix is. Is there something specific to the way awesome
handles such windows that's triggering the problem? Should the WM unset
that flag, etc.?
Thanks
