That's where my problems are: I must use nvidia-settings to turn on/off the second monitor, since xrandr doesn't work with my binary driver. I'd love to switch to the open source nv driver, but * it does crash the whole system when I log of from awesome * I can not play videos with it When I use nvidia-settings to turn on the external monitor, then awesome takes both monitors as one big screen and maximizes the taskbar and all windows above both monitors.
