Well, I tried both versions of the tr including and excluding the JRE to
see if that makes any differences, but nothing. AWT_TOOLKIT is set, I
start tr but tr stays completely gray. If I have wmname set the name to
e.g. LG3D tr starts, but I got the previously described problem. I use
the latest tr version and java is

        java version "1.6.0_16"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_16-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 14.2-b01, mixed mode)

Does anybody else have any clues? If I recall it correctly I think I
didn't have the problem with earlier versions of awesome. But please
don't ask me which one did the change. Must have been one of the latest
though. Some RC of 3.4, I'd guess.

Thanks for your help! I appreciate it!

Cheers,
Torsten
