Now, gnome flashback does not even start on my > computer. No, I run on ubuntu 13.04, which originally has unity on top of a gnome backend, so instead of running compiz with unity, I run awesome. Other components stay the same. So I don't have any desktop panels of windows from gnome, only awesome stuff. The backend is basically gnome-settings-daemon and some other things that get started from lightdm.
