You cannot really. The problem is that the Plasma network manager is not
a simple tray icon but a modern indicator. This means that it is bound
to the Plasma widget which contains it, the bar (usually at the bottom).
You can either use `nm-applet` or run KDE in the background and just
exchange the window manager.
