Whonix very slow and laggy

I set up whonix under arch using virtlib, qemu and kvm but it is 
extremely slow, not in term of network but in term of fluidity, when I 
open a program it takes a long time to open, everything is slow and 
unresponsive. I'm using sparse qcow2 and I've been thinking about trying 
to set up a ram disk but i'm not sure it will help. Any idea how to fix 
this ?
