I believe yes gnome 2 and that gnome 3 is coming
I was also bit surprised by this.
toFront() has been around forever and I've no recollections with
issues on Solaris.
As a datapoint I can test this with a real desktop
(not xVNC) using Solaris 10 + JDK 8 next week ..
