Oh, ok x51v with wm2005 :p
Then all the data is saved on the rom, so i think you wouldn't lose anything. About the step by step guide go to fisherss webpage ( www.fisherss.com ) and follow the steps to boot the kernel, for loading opie and so on, better wait for fisherss to finish the touchscreen driver.

I think you have a wrong idea of having windows and linux on the pda.

Windows is installed on the ROM, and when you hard reset the pda you get
it, for using linux you have to boot haret with the kernel image and
initrd and the possible mountes filesystems.

What about a x51v? WM5 isn't kept in ram!

I'd be willing to test linux on there if someone can give some step by step's.
I think if i power of the device (close all running stuff and write
open PIM data to rom)
then load linux i shouldn't lose data... since WM5 is complelty gone
from ram at that point.

So if you want linux you boot haret, and if you want windows you hard
reset the pda and restore the data of the RAM that you previously saved.
