Hello,

The key contribution of WSIF is its WSDL-centric view of the world, which lets you integrate software by offering them as WSDL services, taking advantage of WSDL's extensibility. SOAP of course retains its importance for interoperability, platform independence, etc. and WSIF correctly views this as just another way to expose your software to clients.

Also "merging" WSIF functionality into Axis as it stands now is comparing apples to oranges - WSIF fits in very well with Axis - Axis is the default provider implementation for invoking SOAP services. But WSIF is a higher level API for invoking WSDL-described services, SOAP or otherwise.

All my opinions.

Here's an independent endorsement of the WSIF approach: http://searchwebservices.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid26_gci841146,00.html

Nirmal.

That's a strong viewpoint from an IBMer. Maybe that's because
the package came from IBM, perhaps?

I can count you as one user, but not buying the expression "Lots."

Any comments? So I can increase the counter, two, three, ... :-)
