Hi Tom,

Well I'm not sure we should go on discussing here the issues with TomKit
which is until now not the offical successor of AxKit or moreover AxKit2
and maybe will never be. Maybe I should get up a mailling list
discussing TomKit or what ever name it will get. What's the opinion of
the other guys hanging around here?
I'm just one of the (former) core developers, and therefore only
speaking for myself. I think that there are issues with the current
state of a number of Perl/XML projects that need to be addressed, AxKit
being one of them.
I don't think that splitting off into another mailing list will bring
any good, in fact to be honest I think that doing so will likely kill
off any effort to move forward and waste a lot of energy.
I was just tonight in Prague having a discussion with several excellent
Perl folks and what came out of it was that there are a few Perl/XML
projects that are currently dormant not because there aren't people out
there to maintain them, but because their original owners have other
things to do but haven't set up the conditions for other people to step
in and do good work on the project (and I sure take my share of guilt in
that situation).
This needs to change. But it's not going to change if every single
person who has energy and time to put into these projects goes off and
starts another list. It doesn't take much: creating a new entry in a CVS
repository, asking people to do code review... Perhaps just making Tom a
committer would be a sufficient start here?
And if the first generation of implementers are not responsive enough,
complain. And if they're still not responsive enough, scream, holler,
yell, bang your fists on the floor. If it still doesn't work I'll give
you the personal phone numbers (eg. +33 6 81 75 45 41 for me :). I
haven't looked at TomKit enough to know if it's the next AxKit or not,
but any energy should be taken with many thanks, and right now the only
thing in the way is inertia.
