That thing should be deprecated I think. It was useful for when I was doing 
performance tests, but if I do those again it should be extended as needed in 
the C code.

Perhaps. If you want to help with this sort of thing, a good place to start 
contributing things would be in the AxKit Wiki: 
http://axkit.org/wiki/AxKit/AxKitDocs

I'm not sure there's a standard for all this stuff. I think basically it'll 
all end up going in the Makefile.PL now that we've migrated to using 
ExtUtils::AutoInstall (for 1.6.1).
